【摘要】:Additivesaregenerallyusedtoenhanceafuelpropertysuchasoxidationstabilityortoimprovefuelperformancebyprovidingcorrosioninhibition,protectionagainsticing,metaldeactivation,andsoforth.However,theirusecanadverselyaffectotherfuelpropertiesortheground-handlingsystemsforfuels.Applicationoftheproceduresofthispracticeisintendedtodisclosetheseadverseeffects.Combinationsofadditivesmayexhibitantagonisticeffectsonfuelpropertiesorperformance.Compatibilitytestingwithpreviouslyapprovedadditivesisintendedtodisclosesuchantagonisticeffectsofincompatibilities.Fuelsystemcomponentssuchassealants,coatings,andelastomersarenormallyselectedbecauseoftheirresistancetoaReferenceTestFluid,whichisdesignedtobemoreseveretocomponentsthanstandardfuels.ApplicationoftheproceduresofthispracticeisintendedtodiscloseadverseeffectsofadditivesbeyondtheeffectsoftheReferenceTestFluids.1.1Thispracticecoversproceduresrequiredtodeterminethecompatibilityofadditivesproposedforaviationturbinefuelswithbothstandardizedfuelsandthematerialscommonlyusedincommercialaircraftfuelsystemconstruction.1.2SatisfactoryevidenceofcompatibilityusingthispracticeisrequiredbytheASTMGuidelinesforAdditiveApproval(ResearchReportD02-1125)foradditivesspecifiedinSpecificationD1655andalsobyindividualaircraftandenginemanufacturersaswellasgovernmentagencies.1.3Compatibilitydataresultingfromtheseproceduresrepresentonlypartoftheperformanceinformationrequiredforadditiveapproval.1.4Theactuallevelofacceptanceisestablishedbytheindividualapprovinggroups.1.5Whileeffortsaremadetomaintainthelistoffuelsystemmaterialstobetestedandtokeepitcurrent,usersofthispracticemustrecognizethattheselistsaresubjecttocontinuingrevisiontomeettheneedsofequipmentmanufacturers.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
